 Character Information

Character Name: Hidetoshi Odagiri
Character Series: Persona 3
Character Age: He's in his third year in high school so I'd peg him as 15-16 years old.
Character Gender: Male.
Original Canon
Canon Point: Post-True Ending, shortly after the MC's death and presumably, after his following funeral. I'm presuming the MC managed to max out the Emperor Social Link before the end of the game.
Background Link: "I'm Hidetoshi Odagiri, I supervise the Disciplinary Committee."
Personality: Hidetoshi is someone who comes off at first glance to be more then a bit of an asshole. He's ceaselessly domineering, self-righteous, and has rigid ideas of what is wrong and what is right. When you first cross paths with him in the game and begin a Social Link, his pragmatic view of the world at large is very black and white; the weak get trampled on by the strong, relationships with others are nothing but pain waiting to happen, and if you want to change things and make a difference in anything, you need power and lots of it. And it really doesn't matter what other people think of him because you're obviously correct, and they're just a bunch of fools. The title of "insufferable, overly-zealous teacher's pet" is not an nickname unsuited to people like him. He likes it when people agree with him, and is willing to express his gratitude nonvocually, but if you don't agree with him? Well, that's just too bad, because Hidetoshi has a head harder then granite and stubbornness to match and rarely considers himself to be in the wrong.

The Emperor symbolizes the desire to control one's surroundings, and its appearance suggests that one is trying too hard to achieve this, maybe causing trouble for others; some elements in life are just not controllable. That's another thing, Hidetoshi.... goes dramatically overboard with some things; need him to track down some law-breaking student who smoked in the boy's bathroom? Sure! He'll go asking questions very rudely and accusing everybody he suspects without evidence, thus pissing lots of people off! The other members of the student body are getting tired of him beating the dead horse? Bunch of undereducated hyenas, the whole lot. He's a snob, even if he is aware of how his peers perceive his image negatively and if he's going to insult you, Hidetoshi's going to use big, pretentious words to do it.

But he does have positive personality traits beyond being stubborn and pompous. He is self-motivated, ambitious, and certainly not a person without direction in life; he desires at one point to build a company where everybody is treated fairly, and upon discarding this fantasy, immediately assigns himself a new goal: to become a respectable teacher. Another of his character quicks is his willingness to give it his all in everything he does; Hidetoshi almost never complains about any of amount of work heaped upon him. He's also capable of questioning his world view; upon being informed that whenever the person who had smoked a cigarette on campus was caught, they would be expelled, he wonders aloud if kicking out the "bad" kids would truly make the school a better teaching environment. If he gets to Social Link Rank 7 feels he can respect and trust another person, he is offhandedly honest about his emotions: with Minato, he tries to be a good friend, tells the MC to watch him work his way to the top, and frequently displays his confidence in the other teenager, also defending and vouching for him without hesitation when under pressure. Powerlessness is a state of being that confuses and upsets him and one Hidetoshi would rapidly become uncomfortably familiar with if placed within the Tower.

The concept of doing what figures of authority want him to gain their trust and thus increasing the chances of raising his own authority, is not a concept Hidetoshi is unfamiliar with. At the beginning of the Student Council Social Link, Hidetoshi listens to only he himself has to say and ignores what everybody else says, not caring what they personally thought of his actions.

By the end of the Social Link, he's loosened up enough to ask for the other students' honest opinions and listen to them instead of forcing them to do so like before. At the very least, he tries. He fails at times, regarding empathy and not being overbearing and selfish, but he tries. He can admit he was wrong and work to win back broken trust. He learns lessons from his mistakes (thought the MC's encouragement was the driving force behind making him review his actions) and changes his way accordingly. He admits to looking down on people and not showing concern for others in his pursuit of power. However, he's not power-hungry per se: the correct interpretation is he's desperate for power. Power and control are key elemnts in his life and his need for both is explicit; he requires power to control his surroundings. If there isn't someone around to rein him in, he could get carried away in this need.

In short, Hidetoshi is a strict, law-abiding, and serious to being almost amusingly so, student, but he wants to be worthy of others' trust and to be worthy of himself. Hidetoshi tries to be the best of the man he can be, to raise above bad things in life and prevent those bad things from happening to both whose he cares about and whose who are innocent. Now if he could just figure out how to take a decent joke and have some more fun with life...

Abilities: Nope, totally normal run-of-the-mill high school student here. He's fit and capable of thriving (or crashing and burning, depending on the situation) when placed in a leadership role, but that's about it.
Sample Entry: There be DM interactions here.
